Pandemic Influenza Website A recent made-for-TV movie about an Avian Flu pandemic, presumes the spread of the virus from person to person, a phenomenon yet to occur. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, there is no immediate threat of an influenza pandemic. A new pandemic preparedness website is intended to provide people with timely, accurate and reliable information about pandemic influenza.

2006 Annual Crime Victims’ Rights Week The 2006 Annual Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 23 – 29, arrives with recent significant enhancements in laws protecting victims. Act 66 of 2005 – strengthened the effectiveness and enforcement of protection orders and enhanced the safety of domestic violence victims and their children. New provisions address firearms, fees, jurisdiction, terms of protection orders, custody relief, and confidentiality for interpreters.

Volunteer Fire Companies and Ambulance Services Grants Volunteer fire companies and ambulance services may be eligible for grant dollars to help defray the costs associated with purchasing new equipment, upgrading facilities or providing additional training. The program will distribute $22 million in fire company grants and $3 million for ambulance service grants.
