Saving Historic Schools That unique architecture that once greeted excited school children is now threatened by years of wear and tear; prejudice against older construction and its perceived limitations; misinterpretation of state education policies, and unabated commercial development. Community activists, preservationists, parents, the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PH&MC), the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and residents are banding together to save our historic schools.

Insurance Department Launches Online Consumer Newsletter The PA Insurance Department will shed light on the relationship between credit and insurance at the same time it begins promoting the “Get Smart” about insurance campaign. The Department, through its online “Consumer News You Can Use”, is also offering helpful tips should a weather-related disaster strike.

PA Honors Historic People, Places and Events What do anti-slavery efforts, an illustrious labor leader, and a recovered sunken Soviet sub containing secret code books have in common with the inventor of electronic TV and the oldest continually operating oil refinery in the U.S.? All have been deemed worthy of a place in PA history with a state historical marker. Twenty-nine of Pennsylvania’s historic people, places and events are being recognized with markers this year, adding to the more than 2,000 already located around the state proudly proclaiming our heritage.

HARRISBURG. -- The PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recently announced the availability of $5 million for innovative energy deployment projects addressing the concerns of air quality protection or improvement and watershed protection or improvement, Sen. Joe Conti (R-Bucks, Montgomery) reported today. Applications will be accepted until July 14, 2006.
